This is a month with huge ups and downs but with vast potential. With four planets retrograde — Mercury, Pluto, Neptune, and Saturn. Mercury goes direct on August 11, though Pluto, Neptune, and Saturn continue their retrogrades throughout the month. We are reliving who we were in the past to enter a peak of possibility. Our future has arrived yet we need a final breakthrough as we enter this time of awakening.

August 12 brings the highlight: Venus conjunct Jupiter at 14° Cancer, aligned with Fixed Star Sirius. This star brings fame, good fortune, and power and Venus and Jupiter amplify that radiance. Their meeting covers us in the love and optimism we need to face some of the month’s more intense oppositions, including Mars opposite Saturn (August 9) and Venus opposite Pluto (August 27).

Venus continues to form a string of beautiful aspects: Venus trine Saturn (August 25), Venus sextile Uranus (August 26), Venus trine Neptune (August 26) — all offering support through change. Regardless of any drama, there’s a feeling of being met, recognised, and understood. This is a month that offers emotional truth and powerful softness. Perhaps it gives us permission to finally accept and understand ourselves. Without a doubt, love should win the day.

We have been flung into the next dimension. Talking of which, where are you on the Mandela effect and the fact that the statue of David now has heart-shaped pupils! Do you always remember Michelangelo’s David having heart-shaped pupils, or is it the Universe flirting with us and giving us clues that we have slipped into another timeline?

We talk about the ‘human race’. As if that’s what we are in from cradle to grave. But life isn’t a race. Life goes at its own pace. And the cosmos doesn’t care what pace you do it. This isn’t a marathon. All that is required is your participation.

What race are you running? And when did life turn into one? Those are the questions we will all be asked to contemplate this August. Especially when the Sun moves from Leo to Virgo on the 22^nd. Has life become a competition instead of simply something to be enjoyed and experienced? This can become a whole-life issue. Or it can be something we engage in over one or more areas.

And it will be a theme that remains with us as we move from August to September. This is due to Mercury heading direct in Leo (11^th), and playing catch-up. And then the arrival of Venus in Leo on the 25^th – the day Mercury retro-shade ends. With a profoundly self-care centred new Moon in Virgo on the 23rd, and a full Moon in Aquarius under which we should celebrate our unique authenticity, all this energy will have us looking at where we may have become too rushed, hooked on competitiveness and feeling we need to race to the finish line.

First rule of August – stop comparing yourself to others. This is harder than it seems in the age of influencers and social media. Especially around what you do, shine at or enjoy doing. If we become too obsessed with comparisons, we end up feeling we have nothing to offer. Or others are so much better than us at doing it. So we give up. Denying ourselves the pleasure of self-expression. And others the inspo of our own unique light. So – cease and desist. Really. And if this means no longer scrolling to see what others are doing – and then comparing yourself to that, then go for the tough self-love or a digital detox.

Second rule of August: Stop the competition. Especially if someone else is making you compete for their time, attention, praise, recognition or love. Or constantly compares you to others. Be this that lover, partner, employer or family member. Yes, this may mean speaking out. Or even in some cases distancing.

But this month wants you to understand that you are already enough. So – don’t get sucked into running a race where the finish line always gets further away no matter how fast or far you run. Mars in Libra – the sign of partnerships from the 6^th allows us to say ‘Enough is enough!’. And also set appropriate boundaries where necessary. Show up for yourself if needed. And yes, opt out. 

Dharma describes Virgo superpowers perfectly. Just what makes a Dharma Chameleon? Virgo’s many changing hues embody this in their natural state. And yes, it is natural. Work with meaning, duty, devotion, appreciation of beauty and the natural world. Self-care, healthy choices, honesty, respect and knowing when enough is enough. Going for what is right and quality. Rather than quantity and ‘anything goes’.

Virgo appreciates the present. Knows the here and now is the ultimate gift. And contains the ultimate power. There is no time like the present. Especially under the new Moon in Virgo on the 23^rd.

Its square to Uranus in Gemini may challenge us to take on board new ideas around this. Or simply let go of old ones. Including us unconsciously opting into a competition where we unfairly compare ourselves to others. Your true colours are unrepeatable. So why try to copy someone else’s?

In a nutshell: A wildly important karmic month bringing deep soul change. We are all awakening now. We are in a deep transformative time with Venus and Jupiter carrying us forward. Life is a journey – not a race. And you undertake it at your own pace. Ditch comparisons and the need to compete.
